After a great victory...the fire came down and the prophets of Baal had just been killed, he had just prayed for the rain and a small cloud was appearing; when he thought all was over he can now move freely without hiding in caves, he can now relax....He became shocked when ROUND 2 was announced:
1 Kings 19:1-3
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying," So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. NKJV
There are two sides to a coin. Victory can either make you relaxed thinking you’ve achieved much or you’ve done a lot already whilst on the other hand it can be a stimulant for you to carry on fighting. Round 1 was over and that served as an assurance that God was with Elijah but since he was not expecting the second round to be announced by the enemy, he lost it!
How many have achieved great things yesterday only to lose today or tomorrow? The lesson here is that no matter how much one can achieve he can never think it’s over or relax in his faith. As long as we still have breath in us the war with the devil is never over, there is no day of rest or “ take things easy you’ve done too much already” lest we fall in the enemies trap like King David did.
Embrace yourself to fight. Put on your gloves- ROUND 2 Fight!
